The four Founding Documents of the United States of America are the Articles of Association (1774), the Declaration of Independence (1776), the Articles of Confederation (1781) and the Constitution of the United States (1789). These documents collectively established our Nation as an independent, sovereign entity. The Signers of these documents were Americans of both great means and of simple backgrounds. Some of them were descendants of gentry and nobility, while others sprung from the yeomanry and even peasantry. One thing they all had in common, despite their roots, was a desire for a better life, untrodden by the tyranny of the Crown. They fervently believed in their cause, and their patriotic spirit continues to live today in their descendants.
Here, we see the pages of each of those four documents. A complete list of the Signers can be found on our SIGNERS page.
